Job Summary

NexGen is currently seeking a Data Engineer (Azure) to be responsible for data architecture and recommendations to enhance data architecture for major National Applications used by the Federal government. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrable experience in architecting data solutions for large-scale on-site and cloud-based implementations. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

• There are no supervisory responsibilities. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (as assigned)  

• Projects long-range requirements for database design in conjunction with other managers in the information systems function.   

• Identifies architectural risks and plans to mitigate.  

• Leads innovation by exploring, investigating, recommending, benchmarking and implementing data centric technologies for the platform.   

• Conducts quality control and auditing of databases in a client/server environment to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data. Advises users on access to various client/server databases.  

• Creates new data validation methods and data analysis tools.  

• Ensures compliance with data governance and security policies.  

• Analyzes problem incidents, debug SQL and implement fixes. 

• Performs data access analysis design, and archive/recovery design and implementation.   

• Other duties may be assigned. 

 

Technical Skills 

• 3+ years’ experience with Data Modeling. 

• Expertise with reverse engineering existing application databases and underlying data architecture to present recommendations for optimizing the underlying data models.  

• Experience with Oracle database, including the ability to write and understand complex SQL queries against Oracle database.

• Experience with administration, configuration management, monitoring, debugging, benchmarking and performance tuning of Database Engines. 

• Experience with federal data governance and compliance. 

• Experience with the following:

• Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2.  

• Azure Data Factory pipeline development and orchestration.  

• Medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold).  

• Azure Data Factory or Synapse pipelines.  

• Azure SQL unified data model. Data migration from legacy federal systems (SQL Server, Oracle, flat files).  

Education  

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or a related scientific or technical degree; or equivalent experience. 

 Additional Requirements

• Effectively and accurately communicates with management regarding project status, issue identification, and remediation. 

• Excellent interpersonal, organizational with exceptional written and verbal communication skills. 

• High quality customer service skills including strong training skills. 

• Ability to analyze and work with complex system integrations.  

• Seek innovative ways to improve the process of delivering solutions to clients.  

• The successful candidate will also be able to pass background screening prior to employment. 

• US Citizenship, legal permanent residence, or US work authorization with minimum 3 years of US presence is required due to federal contract requirements.

Compensation: $95,000-115,000/year

(The successful candidate's starting pay will fall within the salary range provided and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions.)
