Technical Writer
(REMOTE)
NexGen is currently seeking a Technical Writer to document a diversity of government software applications in varying stages of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC); including documentation of version control documents, technical design documents, operating manuals, requirement documents, and end-user software product manuals, training materials and online help contents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Prepares, reviews, and edits briefings and technical documents for upper management, as needed.
Edits documents to ensure grammatical correctness, appropriate tone, consistency in style and format, and conformance with policies and procedures.
Prepares, evaluates, and/or rewrites documents to improve written presentation in terms of logical development of ideas and concepts, the reading and knowledge level of the intended audience, the method of expression, and the overall quality of writing.
Consults with Subject Matter Experts (SME) to plan and advise on content, format, and policy for assigned documents.
Develops technical material and facilitates team discussions in order to advance the discussion to final product.
Performs creative writing and editing techniques to develop information/materials.
Assists team with developing statements of work for upcoming projects.
Other duties may be assigned.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in English, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field with at least 10 years of related experience
Technical Skills/Experience:
Advanced to expert level knowledge of MS 365 Office, especially MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Visio.
Knowledge and incorporation of editing process which follow accessibility standards meeting requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro Accessibility Tool is a plus.
Works independently and as part of a project team.
Comprehensive knowledge and ability to provide analysis and information orally through briefings, consultations, and other presentations.
Possesses strong writing and presentation skills, including the ability to synthesize complex analyses into easy-to-understand language for a non-technical audience. Ability to engage SMEs in business initiatives, resolve problems for customers, gain intelligence concerning customer acquisition plans, maintain and enhance technical knowledge and skills, and represent the program during customer outreach contacts.
Ability to lead collaborative tasks to further support and enhance the final report/deliverables.
Ability to learn, understand and communicate technical concepts and step by step instructions to the relevant audience in the government or commercial sector.
Ability to quickly comprehend, review, edit and help write technical documents.
Skilled in making formal presentations to present team findings.
Additional Desired Skills/Requirements:
Background in training, software and government contracts, and exposure to a wide array of technologies is strongly preferred.
Advanced to expert level knowledge of SharePoint for basic content management.
Professional demeanor and the ability to deal with various tasks simultaneously, should have a take-charge attitude and be able to work independently.
Ability to pass background screening prior to employment.
US Citizenship, or legal permanent residence, or US work authorization with minimum 3 years of continuous US presence is required due to federal contract requirements.
