NexGen is currently seeking a GIS Systems Administrator who would support architecture for applications and assist in the design and management of an organization's cloud systems, applications, policies, and strategy. This position would incorporate security management and privacy requirements into cloud hardware, software, and applications. This person would need to be comfortable working with multiple teams and team members that report into different organizations and can break down communication barriers to get the job done. This individual will be required to work closely with members of the NexGen's and client’s teams, including but not limited to subject matter experts, technical leads, and project managers. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:  

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in enterprise GIS installation and configuration. This will include assisting the team with implementation and deployment of solutions, configuration and customization of systems and applications, security model implementation, documentation, and troubleshooting. Tasks include: 

  • Differentiate between ArcGIS Enterprise deployment patterns and configurations and the key capabilities of ArcGIS solutions, applications, and APIs as well as open-source solutions and cloud solutions, to apply them to user needs. 

  • Determine the ArcGIS Enterprise (open source) deployment pattern to support user business requirements and apply concepts of computing, networking, security, and the Azure cloud to the system design. 

  • Provide a set of data or business requirements, determine the appropriate licensing role and architecture pattern for ArcGIS Enterprise/open source/cloud environment and then apply procedural concepts to configure security and determine the appropriate components. 

  • Perform application component installation and configuration, including Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Data Store, Web Adaptor for IIS, and related open-source items, as necessary, within development, testing, staging, and production environments. 

  • Collect requirements to identify service types and share workflows and configure service capabilities and properties. 

  • Benchmark performance and ensure appropriate levels of system and server performance, utilization, and uptime based upon service level agreements and data center support hours. 

  • Recommend ArcGIS Enterprise/open source/cloud environment authentication and authorization strategies including troubleshooting and correcting issues with security models and protocols. 

  • Interpret tool results to optimize system design, identify risks, and recommend implementation strategies. 

  • Plan, develop, test, and document disaster recovery, redundancy, and continuity of operations plans and activities for an ArcGIS Enterprise/open-source deployment, such as scheduling and maintaining vendor-provided backup and recovery tools, and automating service recovery processes. 

  • Develop and maintaining scripts to automate application installation and configuration using a software configuration management system 

  • Develop software installation packages and coordinate with other IR teams to publish and make available via the Software Center. 

  • Develop sufficient documentation of work products based upon the criticality of the systems and complexity of the work. 

  • Maintenance and upgrades as well as manual and automated monitoring of systems. Tasks include: 

  • Maintenance and monitoring of the integrity of systems, appropriate levels of access, and promptly addressing all security-related issues. 

  • Manage updates to services, systems, and applications. 

  • Determine strategies and develop scripts to automate maintenance, administration, and support of highly scalable systems. 

  • Perform patching, upgrades and other maintenance on ArcGIS Enterprise/open-source components. 

  • Perform standardization and tuning activities on applications and services. 

  • Perform controlled change management activities along with detailed documentation of changes. 

  • Assist with planning, design, and implementation of ArcGIS Enterprise/open source/ cloud environment migration plans (e.g., backup, installation, data restore, and validation). 

  • Audit user accounts, contents, and services within enterprise systems using manual and automated procedures. 

  • Create and administer Active Directory (AD) groups for use in ArcGIS Enterprise/open-source applications. 

  • Utilize tools and workflows to administer all components of ArcGIS Enterprise/open source. 

  • Troubleshooting of problems in enterprise systems. Tasks may include: 

  • Troubleshoot infrastructure- and network- based problems with ArcGIS Enterprise/open-source/cloud environment. 

  • Interpret ArcGIS Enterprise/open source/cloud environment log messages. 

  • Perform root cause analysis of performance issues in ArcGIS Enterprise/open-source/cloud environment deployments, including high-availability environments. 

  • Troubleshoot issues, errors, and warnings within the ArcGIS Enterprise/open source/cloud environment system. 

  • Troubleshoot issues, errors and warnings with publishing and sharing workflows in an ArcGIS Enterprise/open source/cloud environment deployment. 

  • Troubleshoot scripts used for automation of routine tasks. 

  • System Administration Coordination. Tasks may include: 

  • Work collaboratively with a variety of vendors’ technical support teams and IT, data center, and related staff. 

  • Communicate with end users reporting issues related to ArcGIS Enterprise/open-source and related systems. 

  • Collaborate with the staff to identify, address and mitigate security risks and ensure compliance with the relevant regulatory requirements.    

  • Other duties may be assigned.  

   

Technical Skills:  

  • High degree of expertise with the following:  

  • Microsoft and Linux applications and servers maintained within virtual and cloud computing environments.  

  • ESRI desktop, server, web, and mobile mapping technologies, including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, Collector for ArcGIS, Story Maps, Field Maps, and Survey 123.  

  • Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL and Enterprise Geodatabases.  

  • Scripting libraries in Python, JavaScript, Chef, PowerShell, Ansible, and Structured Query Language (SQL).  

  • Basic network administration.  

 

Desired Skills:  

  • Work experience within the Federal Government.  

  • Experience with Azure Cloud and AWS.  

 

Additional Requirements:  

  • The candidate should also possess strong oral and written communication skills, problem-solving skills and should be a team player.   

  • The successful candidate will also be able to pass background screening prior to employment.   

  • US Citizenship, or legal permanent residence, or US work authorization with minimum 3 years of continuous US presence is required due to federal contract requirements. 

 

Education/Experience:  

Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or related discipline with 5-7 years of related experience
